I am educated as a biologist from the University of Copenhagen. In 2007 I received my PhD degree from Center for Biological Sequence Analysis, Department for Systems Biology, DTU within the field of Immunological Bioinformatics. My PhD study concerned the use of computers for identifying the small fragments of proteins (the so-called epitopes) that activate the immune system. These epitopes are important during a viral or bacterial infection and increased knowledge about them can be used for the design of vaccines. In the latest years, my focus has shifted towards how to utilize the immune system in the combat against cancer. This is particularly relevant when it comes to bonemarrow transplantations, where the donor’s immune system is transferred into a patient with for instance leukemia. In addition, I am course responsible for the two courses Biological Chemistry (27932) and Life Science (27002).
